Mezzo-soprano Victoria Vargas’ opera credits include Adelaide (Arabella), Natacha Rambova (The Dream of Valentino), Third Lady (Magic Flute), Fenena (Nabucco), Smeton (Anna Bolena), Mrs Deakins in the World premiere of Doubt, Suzuki (Madame Butterfly), Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor), Nelly (Wuthering Heights), Flora (La Traviata), Anna (Mary Stuarda), and Tisbe (La Cenerentola) all while she was a resident artist with the Minnesota Opera .
She has also sung with the Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Chautauqua Opera, Sarasota Opera, and the Ash Lawn Highland Festival.
Equally comfortable in concert work Ms. Vargas has premiered as an Alto Soloist in Messiah for both the Buffalo, NY Philharmonic Orchestra, and members of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Other concerts include Carmen (Carmen) selections with Mankato Symphony, and concerts with the Chautauqua Symphony, St.Cloud Orchestra, and the Western New York Chamber Orchestra. In the 2015 season she will perform the Verdi Requiem with the Wayzata Symphony, the Liebeslieder Walzer with MacPhail Center for Music, and a solo recital of Peter Lieberson’s Neruda songs for the Minnesota Orchestra. In 2016 she makes her debut with the South Dakota Symphony singing Beethoven’s Mass in C.
Ms.Vargas placed second in the Upper Midwest region of the Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions, and first place in the Minnesota district. This past season she placed second in the Schubert Club competition, and was a finalist in the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition. Upcoming in in the 2015 season Ms. Vargas will be singing Mrs Lowe in the world premiere of The Manchurian Candidate with Minnesota Opera, and the title role of Carmen with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, and repeating the role with the Minnesota Opera.
